Tianjin Municipal Engineering Design& Research Institute Co., Ltd. (TMEDI) was originally established on October 18th, 1949 and transformed into an enterprise in 2021, as one of the first municipal engineering design institutes founded up following the establishment of People’s Republic of China. It is the new high-tech enterprise authenticated by the State, and also one of the domestic municipal engineering design units engaged in complete specialties.
As the integrated national Grade A design and research institute, currently, the company has Grade A Comprehensive Qualification for Engineering Design, Grade A Comprehensive Qualification for Engineering Investigation, Grade A Comprehensive Qualification for Engineering Consulting, and Grade A Qualifications for Urban and Rural Planning, Surveying and Mapping General Contracting, Engineering Supervision, Special Equipment (Pressure Pipeline) Design, and CMA Inspection and Testing. It owns a national-level enterprise technology center and the foreign business right authorized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, and serves as an enterprise managing the complete foreign aid projects of the Ministry of Commerce.

Keeping promoting the national market layout and adhering to the zero-distance full-process service, it has set up 24 operation and production units affiliated to the Institution, more than 30 secondary branches and foreign project departments.

The company adheres to innovation and efficiency and struggle for advancement in science and technology, and attaches importance to standardized services and scientific management. In 1995, it was awarded the national first-level standard file management certificate, first passed the ISO9001 quality management system certification in the national municipal survey and design industry in 1996, and obtained the AAA certificate of the first batch of national pilot project quality management system grading certification in 2017. At present, it has passed the international standard certification of ISO9001 quality management system, ISO14001 environmental management system, and ISO45001 occupational health and safety management system. Since 1978, it has obtained more than 200 national, ministerial, and municipal scientific and technological progress awards, nearly 600 outstanding survey and design awards, and over 100 outstanding consulting achievement awards, over 90 invention patents and more than 70 utility model patents. Meanwhile, it took part in editing over 70 of national standards, industrial standards and the local standards as an editor-in-chief or editor.
