Ambassador and President Grace the Event! Covered by Xinhua News!
— China-Mauritania Friendship Bridge, Tianjin Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute’s First Completed Foreign Aid Project, Officially Opens

May 15 – The inauguration ceremony of the Nouakchott Overpass Bridge in Mauritania, assisted by the Chinese government and designed and managed throughout construction by Tianjin Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute, was held in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania. As a key commemorative project for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mauritania, the bridge has been officially named the "China-Mauritania Friendship Bridge."

President Ghazouani and Ambassador Tang Zhongdong Attended the Ceremony and Cut the Ribbon

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and Chinese Ambassador to Mauritania Tang Zhongdong attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon. The event was also graced by the presence of Mauritanian Prime Minister Ahmed Ould Bèye, Minister of Equipment and Transport Kertoum Leïtel, senior local government officials of the capital, diplomats from various countries, representatives of international organizations, Chinese enterprise representatives, and local dignitaries, totaling over 400 participants. The ceremony was broadcast live by Mauritanian national news agencies and television stations, while Xinhua News Agency dedicated a special feature to cover the project.

During the ceremony, Minister Kertoum Leïtel expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their high-quality support in Mauritania’s infrastructure development. He emphasized that the China-Mauritania Friendship Bridge, as a precious gift for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, symbolizes the profound friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. Upon completion, the bridge is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in the capital, enhance urban operational efficiency, and continuously contribute to Mauritania’s economic and social development.

Ambassador Tang Zhongdong stated that the bridge, as a landmark project of China’s foreign aid to Mauritania, demonstrates China’s firm commitment to supporting Africa’s development. It will not only strengthen the "hard connectivity" of infrastructure but also foster "people-to-people bonds" between the two nations. China is willing to use this bridge as a link to further deepen the strategic partnership between China and Mauritania, jointly ushering in a new era of China-Africa cooperation.

As the first completed foreign aid project of Tianjin Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute, the China-Mauritania Friendship Bridge is not only a vital transportation hub in Mauritania’s capital but also a bridge connecting the friendship between the two countries. The Institute will take the completion of this bridge as a new starting point, continuing to respond to the Belt and Road Initiative, demonstrating responsibility through perseverance, and contributing Tianjin’s expertise to China’s diplomatic efforts.
